Kayaking for a Cause

Staff Spotlight on Laurie Case

When the Made in the Shade walk was canceled this year, a Phoenix staff member took matters into her own hands and started fundraising on her own! This month, we want to share her story as we featured her in our Close the Gap newsletter this quarter.

Laurie Case, a direct support professional at Chaparral House, kayaked for the first time this year. As soon as she did, she fell in love! It’s the perfect way to support Chaparral and social distance at the same time. And that’s how her kayaking fundraiser began!

“The guys are at Chaparral are very special to me and everyone who works at the house, so I wanted to do this to bless their lives,” said Laurie. As the guys at the house prepared hats for the big day, she started a Facebook fundraising page to spread the word. And from there, it took off! Laurie successfully raised $145 from her day on the lake to support the guys she loves so much!

“Laurie continuously works to enrich the lives of others,” said Program Manager Kim Guderjan. “This act just puts her a step above her everyday intentions. Laurie is a model caregiver and we are so blessed to have her at Chaparral House.”

The team is currently brainstorming on how they want to use the funds.

Thank you for your efforts Laurie!
