Phoenix President Recognized as Honorary Leader

Darlene Scott, president & CEO, was chosen as an Honoree for the 2023 Minnesota African American Heritage – Visionary Women Calendar.

For seventeen years, the Minnesota African American Heritage Calendar (MAAHC) has acknowledged many African Americans who have distinguished themselves as community leaders and reformers. MAAHC also has recognized various individuals and organizations in Minnesota that uplifted humanity, promote social responsibility, and safeguard civil justice.

The theme of the calendar this year is Visionary Women, recognizing women who have demonstrated exceptional qualities as Minnesota citizens and state residents. Darlene was chosen for this honor because of the tireless work she does on a daily basis to advocate for social justice, pay equity, and the rights of those who are marginalized and underserved.

Darlene’s tenure of supporting people with physical and intellectual disabilities began over 40 years ago at The Phoenix Residence, Inc. In addition to her numerous leadership roles over the years at Phoenix and now as President/CEO, Darlene has served or continues to serve on multiple boards of directors, including state and national trade associations representing disability providers, the Friends in Need Food Shelf, TSE Inc., PRO.C.E.E.D. Inc., and for a long time has served in a leadership capacity for her church Usher Ministry.

Congratulations Darlene on this incredible and deserving award! We are proud of your many accomplishments and grateful for your years of service to The Phoenix Residence!
