Transporation Assistant

The Transportation Assistant will help transport the individuals to community activities, appointments, and/or vocational programs.

Make a difference in the lives of adults with disabilities! The Phoenix Residence provides person-centered, quality living experiences for individuals with disabilities. We provide services for 104 adults in 20  homes throughout Dakota, Ramsey, and Washington counties.

The Phoenix Residence is now accepting applications for a part-time Transportation Assistant to provide transportation help to the individuals we support to attend community activities, appointments, and/or vocational programs.

The position involves safely driving individuals to/from scheduled activities, appointments, and/or day programs as assigned.  Specific hours and days are flexible based upon the needs of the individuals and the house.  The Transportation Assistant reports directly to the Scheduling Coordinator and works under the guidance of the various Program Managers. Please note: this position is part-time, up to 60 hours per pay period.

Job Duties:

  • Ability to safely drive and operate company vehicles in order to transport individuals to/from activity, appointment, and/or day program as necessary.
  • Holds a valid license and maintains a safe driving record.
  • Complies with all safety guidelines, including proper body mechanics. Uses and maintains equipment in safe manner. 
  • Documents any incidents/accidents/mileage logs in accordance with documentation standards.
  • Assures for the safety and well-being of all individuals during all aspects of transportation.
  • Reports to assigned site on time and as scheduled.
  • Assures that individuals are appropriately dressed for the outing.
  • Assures that individuals will arrive at scheduled activity, appointment, and/or day program on time, taking into account traffic and weather conditions.
  • Provides door-to-door transportation, assuring individuals are not left unattended.  The Transportation Assistant must connect with the person assigned to be the attendant or staff member at the destination before leaving the individual.
  • Communicates with staff during activities to assure that the needs of all individuals are addressed.
  • Advocates for individuals as needed while in the community.
  • Adheres to all polices and procedures, and philosophy of The Phoenix Residence, Inc. and complies with all rules and regulations of licensing agencies.
  • Maintains cordial and professional relationship with all team members. Presents self as an effective role model and representative of The Phoenix Residence, Inc. in work, language, dress, communication, professionalism and maturity.
  • Reports any incidents or unsafe conditions to the Program Manager.
  • Operates wheelchair lifts as needed
  • Completes daily vehicle pre‐trip and post-trip inspections, and maintains vehicle cleanliness.
  • Must be able to understand and operate GPS devices and/or cell phones.


  • Experience working with persons with disabilities
  • Ability to drive company vehicles.Must maintain the ability to drive the vehicle.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • CPR training required within 3 months
  • First Aid training required within 3 months
  • Ability to physically assist individuals during transport, as well as pushing/pulling wheelchairs door to door.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and lift, and push/pull up to 75 pounds. Must be physically able to step up and down steps and safely secure individuals for transport.
