Nurse Consultant

The Nurse Consultant provides nursing assistance to individuals with disabilties.

Make a difference in the lives of adults with disabilities! The Phoenix Residence provides person-centered, quality living experiences for individuals with disabilities. We provide services for 104 adults in 20 homes throughout Dakota, Ramsey, and Washington counties.

The Phoenix Residence, Inc. is currently accepting applications for a RN or LPN Nurse Consultant position to provide professional nursing assistance at our community sites, including on-call coverage. Please note: this position is part-time at 42 hours per pay period.

Job Responsibilities and Core Duties:

  • Establishes standards of nursing practices to assure the individuals we support receive quality care at our Newport, Maplewood, and St. Paul locations.
  • Is responsible for complying with and acting in accordance to professional licensing agency ICF/MR facility and waiver regulations and policies/procedures of The Phoenix Residence, Inc.
  • Administers, handles and orders medications
  • Oversees the scheduling of appointments to ensure proper referrals are made and treatment is received
  • Track attendance at appointments (as needed), transfers and discharges individuals, notifies physician and/or other interdisciplinary team members of significant changes in status, and documents/maintains medical records
  • Reviews individual diets with the dietician
  • Activates/directs emergency medical procedures when on-site or called upon
  • Attends all mandatory and other job related in-services (CPR, med passing, First Aid) annually and maintains an adequate number of continuing education credits. Keeps staff informed of new procedures or techniques
  • Maintains and fosters professional relationships with the individuals we serve, their families, medical staff, consultants, and community contacts


  • A current RN or LPN is required to practice nursing in the State of Minnesota.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation instructor certification or the ability to obtain
  • Certified Tardive Dyskinesia rater or ability to obtain
  • Experience in the treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities
