Phoenix Gathers for Day at the Capitol
Advocates continue to fight for a competitive workforce to support people with disabilities.
Last week, The Phoenix Residence partnered with 50+ other disability organizations from across the state to rally for support of disability services. In fact, over 1,000 people showed up on this day of advocacy, 
making it the largest day at the Capitol yet this year!
On ARRM/MOHR Day at the Capitol, Phoenix Residence individuals and staff members advocated for a competitive workforce to support people with disabilities. Several family members and Phoenix board members joined in on the day as well.
The excited crowd heard from 14 legislators—including our own Senator Isaacson who represents six of our homes—to share their support of disability services. Missed the event? Be sure to watch the live feed of the rally on ARRM's Facebook page.
After the rally, individuals and staff member shared their stories with legislators of how organizations who support them allow them to achieve their goals and live the best life possible. But to achieve that, they need to pass the Best Life Alliance’s Legislative Proposal (HF 179/SF 06) that stops the 7% cut that was implemented in February 2018 and addresses the 17% wage disparity between disability services wages and wages of occupations competing for the same workers. It also adjusts the timing of the scheduled rate adjustments to every two years rather than every four to better keep pace with actual economic conditions.
Many constituents also shared their concerns of what could happen if this bill is not passed: the closing of their home and misplacement of these vulnerable adults—a crisis that already is starting to happen throughout the state.
Phoenix advocates met with nearly all our senators and representatives with a total of over 20 meetings.
