The Eighth Annual Russ Douglas-Phoenix Golf Classic was held on Monday, June 11, at River Oaks in Cottage Grove. The 126 golfers were able to enjoy a beautiful day out on the course. We would like to thank Bruce Anderson and the entire staff at River Oaks for all their efforts in assuring that our tournament runs smoothly.

The golf event continues to be a successful major fundraising event for The Phoenix Residence, Inc. With the support of our event sponsors, silent auction and raffle prize donors, golfers and guests, we were able to raise an estimated $39,000 at this year’s event. Once everyone made it into the clubhouse, they were able to enjoy the social hour, followed by a delicious meal and program. The Silent Auction and Raffle went on through the dinner and program. We had some great items in our Silent Auction and Raffle this year. Prizes included: PGA Tickets, Waldheim Resort provided a number of vacation packages, Lilydale Pool and Yacht Club, Twins Tickets, iPod, television, digital camera, portable GPS/Navigation system and more. Thanks to Dan Cole, "The Common Man" of KFAN Radio for his continued support of our event by volunteering to emcee our event. Dan has been with us now for eight years, so thanks so much Dan.

As part of our program at this year’s event, we made tribute to some of our founding board and family members who were the pioneers behind the success of The Phoenix Residence, Inc. This was done as we celebrate our 30^th Anniversary throughout 2007. We honored members of the Ludden, Douglas, Caswell, and Foss families as these families were instrumental in getting Phoenix started and paving the way. We also recognized Eric Schultz, who has been a member of our Board of Directors since its inception.

A few other special events took place at this year’s golf tournament. We paid recognition to Darlene Scott, President/CEO for her 25 Years of Service with The Phoenix Residence, Inc. We also recognized Judy Douglas for her 30 years of contribution as past President/CEO and volunteer. We also had a group of special guests during the dinner and program. Members of the 2007 Winter Carnival Royalty were on hand to entertain, as well as knighted several individuals into the royal family. Those knighted were Mary Claire Schmitt, Darlene Scott, Mary Thirsten, Pam Connolly, and Jody Docken.

It was a wonderful event and The Phoenix Residence, Inc. wants to say THANK YOU to all of those who participated in and/or donated towards the success of the Eighth Annual Russ Douglas-Phoenix Golf Classic. We hope to see you at next year’s event which is tentatively scheduled for June 9, 2008!
